The Senior Buyer, Direct Material role sits within BD's procurement function and is responsible for building and managing a strategic portfolio of suppliers that deliver competitive costs, reliable supply, continuous improvement, innovation and sustainable value for the business. On a daily basis the Senior Buyer will act as the primary commercial contact for assigned strategic suppliers. Core duties include managing supplier relationships, conducting regular business reviews, handling escalations and supporting preferred‑supplier development. The role leads sourcing activities, performs market and competitive analyses, and drives price, commercial and contract negotiations to achieve cost‑reduction, cost‑avoidance and total‑cost‑of‑ownership targets. In addition, the buyer identifies alternative sources, supports dual‑sourcing strategies, and works to reduce single‑source risk. Collaboration is extensive: the buyer partners with R&D, engineering, quality, operations, supply‑chain planning, finance and other functions to align supplier performance with broader business objectives and to engage suppliers in value‑engineering, design‑to‑cost and innovation initiatives. The position requires a university degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a comparable field. Candidates must have several years of experience in strategic procurement, sourcing or supplier‑relationship management, and must demonstrate strong commercial acumen together with proven negotiation abilities. A solid understanding of cost structures, contract terms, supplier performance metrics and supply‑chain risk is essential, as are strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management skills. The role also calls for a proactive, collaborative and results‑oriented mindset and the ability to work comfortably with international suppliers and cross‑functional teams. Preferred experience includes familiarity with technical, electromechanical or mechanical components, which can enhance effectiveness in supplier development and innovation projects. The position is based in Kelberg, Germany (Rowastrasse) and follows BD's standard work‑shift arrangements.
