The Get Discovered team focuses on making small businesses visible through search optimisation, advertising and performance tracking. As an Expert Backend Engineer you will act as a technical leader, shaping architecture, system design and reliability for both backend services and, when needed, frontend components. Your day‑to‑day work will involve designing and evolving scalable, maintainable systems across the full stack, defining engineering standards and authoring Architecture Decision Records. You will own complex technical initiatives from concept to delivery, translate business goals into technical roadmaps, and mentor engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing. The role also requires improving testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability and overall operational excellence, while collaborating with product, design, data and engineering leaders to influence strategy and deliver end‑to‑end customer value. The position demands at least eight years of product‑focused engineering experience, including time in a technical‑lead, staff or principal capacity. You must have deep backend expertise with Kotlin, Java or Node.js, and a strong track record designing APIs, distributed systems and reliable production services. Solid frontend skills in React and TypeScript are required, though you are not expected to be a frontend specialist. Proven experience leading large‑scale architectural or integration projects, establishing engineering standards, and working with cross‑functional stakeholders is essential. Excellent communication, mentorship ability and hands‑on use of AI‑assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude are also mandatory. Nice‑to‑have attributes include a passion for supporting entrepreneurs, experience with external partners like Google Workspace, domain providers, email services and RankingCoach, and a commitment to AI‑first development practices.
