Kurz zusammengefasst

AstraZeneca, a global, science‑led biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a Director of Translational Data Enablement to join its Computational Pathology hub in Munich, Germany. The role sits at the crossroads of scientific discovery, technology development, and data leadership, driving the creation of AI‑ready, FAIR‑compliant data products that accelerate drug discovery and development across the enterprise. The day‑to‑day focus will be on delivering analysis‑ready datasets to scientific teams, shaping data standards, and building data catalogs, metadata guidelines, and feedback loops. You will define FAIR‑compliant standards for translational and biomarker data, establish quality frameworks and service‑level agreements, and create semantic schemas that harmonise diverse data sources. Technical responsibilities include specifying requirements for data ingestion, validation, and delivery APIs, leading automation to minimise manual curation, and integrating outputs with AstraZeneca's clinical data lakes and AI/ML platforms. Leadership duties involve recruiting, mentoring, and scaling a distributed team of 12‑15 data stewards and engineers, coordinating with peer directors, and steering a multi‑year roadmap for data standardisation across therapeutic areas. To be considered, candidates must hold a PhD or master's degree in bioinformatics, biomedical data science, molecular medicine or a related discipline, and have a record of published research or thought leadership on biomarker standardisation and data product delivery. At least five years of experience in a relevant field is required, together with proven experience leading a cross‑functional, global team that includes budget responsibility, hiring and onboarding. Demonstrated expertise with FAIR data principles, semantic interoperability and research data standards such as GA4GH or MIAME is essential, as is a track record of scaling data‑governance or stewardship programmes across multiple labs or studies. Familiarity with agentic AI, machine‑learning or LLM‑driven automation in scientific workflows is also mandatory. Additional, desirable experience includes knowledge of biomarker platform companies such as Guardant Health, Foundation Medicine or Tempus, and involvement with research consortia like NCI's SEQC or GTEx. The position is based in Munich, offering a spacious, sustainable office, after‑work events, lunch‑learns, family and childcare support, and easy access to the Alps for outdoor activities. The role requires a minimum of three days per week on‑site, balancing collaboration with individual flexibility. What the role asks for: - PhD or master's degree in bioinformatics or related field - 5+ years relevant experience - Published research on biomarker standardisation - Experience leading global cross‑functional team with budget oversight - Expertise in FAIR data principles and semantic interoperability - Proven track record scaling data‑governance programmes - Familiarity with agentic AI, ML or LLM‑driven automation - Nice‑to‑have: knowledge of biomarker platform companies or research consortia
