Kurz zusammengefasst

JetBrains is looking for a Senior Software Developer to own and evolve the core licensing, entitlement and billing backend services that determine what customers can use and how they are charged. The role sits in the Cloud Platform department's Licensing & Billing team, which underpins the company's commercial model for its development tools used by millions worldwide. Every day you will design, build and operate backend services that ingest licensing and purchase data, enforce quotas, record consumption and calculate usage costs. You will be responsible for end‑to‑end data flows, from upstream ingestion to quota enforcement, and will evolve the domain model to support new commercial structures such as seat‑based and usage‑based plans. The job also includes creating robust integrations with external systems, planning and executing live data migrations using feature flags and dual writes, and adding observability through metrics, alerts and invariants. You will design versioned internal APIs, improve performance and reliability, write integration tests, and troubleshoot production incidents to deliver lasting fixes. The position requires a proven record of building and operating JVM‑based backend services with Kotlin or Java, and solid expertise in relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including transactions, isolation levels, locking, indexing and live schema migrations. You must understand distributed‑system patterns like idempotency, retries, eventual consistency and data reconciliation, and have hands‑on experience with event‑driven architectures and Kafka. Practical experience performing zero‑downtime data migrations using feature flags and staged rollouts is essential, as is the ability to design backward‑compatible APIs and diagnose complex production issues. Strong written and spoken English is required. Nice‑to‑have qualities include a meticulous focus on accuracy where errors have financial impact, pragmatic judgment for unreliable delivery environments, and a habit of trusting metrics, traces and logs over assumptions. You should be comfortable navigating large legacy codebases, communicating clearly across teams to agree on API contracts, and treating testing as a core design activity. The role offers flexible work location, up to 30 days of remote work abroad per year, extra time off, medical insurance allowance, learning and development resources, relocation support, language classes, meal or lunch allowance, mental‑health services, sports benefits and on‑site gym access. What the role asks for: - Proven experience building JVM backend services with Kotlin or Java - Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL relational database concepts - Deep understanding of distributed‑system patterns (idempotency, retries, eventual consistency) - Hands‑on experience with live data migrations using feature flags and staged rollouts - Experience designing versioned, backward‑compatible internal APIs - Practical use of event‑driven architecture and Kafka - Ability to diagnose and resolve production incidents in complex environments - Proficiency in written and spoken English - Nice‑to‑have: focus on financial‑impact accuracy - Nice‑to‑have: strong communication for cross‑team API contracts - Nice‑to‑have: testing‑first mindset.
