As a Distinguished Technologist you will sit in the Chief Technology Officer's direct‑report team and act as a senior technical leader across the entire organisation. Your remit is to turn emerging technologies and the company's Technology Strategy into differentiated capabilities and future business opportunities, working with HARMAN's research, automotive, lifestyle and Samsung technology groups as well as external partners, academia and startups. In day‑to‑day practice you will provide independent technical judgment on strategically important technologies and architectures. You will translate strategic priorities into technical hypotheses, experiments and capability‑building programmes, identify discontinuities that could affect competitiveness, and lead advanced‑technology initiatives from early exploration through to demonstrated technical and business viability. You will also build high‑calibre technical teams, connect and challenge technical communities across the business, advise leaders on build‑partner‑acquire decisions, and represent HARMAN with customers, partners and the broader technology ecosystem. The role requires an exceptional technical track record with hands‑on depth in areas such as physics, software, AI, machine learning, acoustics, material science or signal processing, and the ability to reason credibly across adjacent fields. You must have proven experience creating significant technologies, architectures, platforms or products, not merely managing organisations that did so, and a background that spans research or advanced development through to industrial‑scale productisation. Broad systems thinking across software, hardware and physical systems is essential, as is the ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar technical domains, pinpoint critical questions and engage with deep experts. You must be able to translate complex technology into business, competitive and investment implications, demonstrate technology leadership in complex organisations, influence across boundaries without relying on hierarchy, and communicate effectively with engineers, researchers, business leaders, customers, partners and senior executives. Strong commercial judgment combined with scientific and engineering rigor is also required. Nice‑to‑have attributes include an advanced degree in engineering, computer science, physics or a related discipline, or comparable experience, as well as experience across multiple industries such as automotive, consumer electronics or professional audio/video. Experience in more than one organisational environment, especially within a large global corporation, is also valued.
