The role of QA Hardware Engineer 3, Physical Layer (L0/L1) focuses on ensuring the reliability of Ethernet physical‑layer hardware. On a daily basis you will validate Ethernet PHY behavior, including link negotiation, signal integrity, state transitions and optical transceiver operation. You will reproduce and isolate hardware and firmware defects at the PHY level, build and maintain lab setups with optical and copper interfaces such as OSFP and QSFP‑DD, and analyse failures, capture logs and document defects in the issue tracker. Collaboration with hardware, software and application development teams is essential for triaging issues and driving quality improvements. You will also define long‑term performance and scalability test scenarios, derive test requirements from validation reports, and help integrate physical‑layer test suites into CI/CD pipelines for automated regression coverage. The position requires a degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent experience, plus hands‑on experience bringing up and troubleshooting high‑speed hardware interconnects. You must be comfortable with test and measurement equipment like protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes and BERT testers, and have a solid grasp of Ethernet L1 and L2 layers, including managed transceivers. Proficiency in Python scripting for API automation and fluency in both English and German are also mandatory. Beneficial but not required are deep knowledge of IEEE 802.3 standards, high‑speed Ethernet beyond 100 GbE, and familiarity with PCS/FEC concepts.
