Kurz zusammengefasst

CarOnSale is an AI‑driven B2B platform that powers used‑car trading across Europe. The company runs a real‑time auction system that connects thousands of dealers, buyers, pricing intelligence, logistics and financing into a single operating layer. The Engineering Manager, Auctions will lead the TRX team, which owns the core auction and selling‑modality services, and will shape the future direction of this critical domain. On a daily basis the manager will supervise seven engineers spanning backend, web and mobile, collaborating with a dedicated Product Manager across European and Brazilian time zones. Responsibilities include setting the technical strategy for the auction domain, aligning it with OKRs, and making key architecture decisions. The role also covers delivery and quality ownership, defining the delivery method, allocating testing responsibilities, and ensuring that releases perform reliably in live auctions. The manager will track and act on technical metrics, run people processes such as onboarding, growth plans, regular feedback and mentoring, and make balanced product‑engineering trade‑offs. Additionally, the manager is expected to champion AI adoption within the team and incorporate AI tools into personal workflows. The position requires at least eight years of hands‑on software engineering experience before moving into management, with a strong background in distributed systems, including services, concurrency and data consistency. Candidates must have a minimum of two years' experience as a line manager responsible for performance and hiring, and should have built and grown a team from scratch rather than inheriting one. Proven experience in running a delivery methodology, Scrum, Kanban or a custom approach, and a clear understanding of testing layers is essential. The applicant must have owned a technical strategy linked to OKRs or similar governance, practice an AI‑first workflow using tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot, and possess English proficiency at C1 level or higher. Preferred qualifications include experience with real‑time or event‑driven systems under load, object‑oriented and domain‑driven design, and familiarity with multiple delivery methodologies. Candidates who have led monolith‑to‑services migrations, managed distributed teams across time zones, or have backgrounds in marketplaces, auctions, automotive, payments or trading will be viewed favorably. Knowledge of CarOnSale's tech stack, TypeScript, NestJS, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Heroku, Angular and Flutter, and German language skills are also nice‑to‑have. The role is based in central Berlin with a hybrid model: three days in the office and two remote, plus 25 "work from anywhere" days annually. Benefits include 28 days of vacation, a company pension with a 20 % employer contribution, a fully paid Deutschlandticket, fitness membership subsidies, virtual stock options, modern IT equipment, structured onboarding, and a diverse, inclusive workplace with active women's networks and wellness spaces. What the role asks for: - 8+ years as software engineer (individual contributor) - 2+ years managing engineers as line manager - Deep knowledge of distributed systems (services, concurrency, consistency) - Built and grown a team from hiring to leveling - Experience running a delivery methodology (Scrum, Kanban or custom) - Owned technical strategy tied to OKRs or governance - AI‑first workflow using Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot - English at C1 level or higher - Nice to have: Real‑time or event‑driven systems under load - Nice to have: Object‑oriented and domain‑driven design - Nice to have: Experience with multiple delivery methodologies - Nice to have: Led monolith‑to‑services migration or stabilization - Nice to have: Managed distributed team across time zones - Nice to have: Background in marketplaces, auctions, automotive, payments or trading - Nice to have: Familiarity with TypeScript, NestJS, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Heroku, Angular, Flutter - Nice to have: German language proficiency
