The Working Student position is with NXP's embedded‑software department, which builds a secure operating system for ARM and 8051 microcontrollers used in mobile transaction solutions. As a student you will join an experienced team, helping to develop and maintain the software that runs on these secure chips while gaining hands‑on exposure to embedded development, automation and hardware integration. Your day‑to‑day tasks will involve writing and reviewing code in Java and C, creating scripts to automate build and test processes, and building small tools for performance measurement. You will also assist with the upkeep of the development infrastructure, support the software lab, and update hardware devices such as card readers with new firmware. Setting up and managing peripherals, including readers and FPGAs, and collaborating closely with senior engineers on embedded‑software topics are also part of the role. The role requires you to be currently enrolled in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a comparable programme. You must be comfortable programming in Java and C and have basic experience with scripting languages like Shell or Batch. A genuine interest in embedded microcontroller software and cryptographic security mechanisms is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively in English and/or German. You should be able to work up to 18 hours per week and thrive in a collaborative team environment. Nice‑to‑have attributes include prior hands‑on work with development boards such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, and a proactive mindset toward security‑related tasks that may fall under certification scopes. NXP offers a competitive hourly rate that rises after six months, 30 days of vacation, flexible and hybrid working options, and access to on‑site amenities and employee networks. What the role asks for: - Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar - Programming proficiency in Java - Programming proficiency in C - Familiarity with Shell or Batch scripting - Interest in embedded microcontroller software development - Good communication skills in English and/or German - Availability up to 18 hours per week - Nice‑to‑have: hands‑on experience with Arduino or Raspberry Pi
