Kurz zusammengefasst

GetYourGuide is a global travel platform that connects millions of users with curated activities and experiences. As a Senior Software Engineer on the API Platform team, you will help shape the GraphQL layer that powers the company's most critical customer‑facing features such as search, discovery and checkout. The team builds and maintains the standards, tooling and infrastructure that allow data to flow reliably and at scale from internal services to external clients. On a daily basis you will own and evolve the production GraphQL API, designing schemas and query patterns that meet both flexibility and performance goals. You will define and enforce platform standards, including schema governance, deprecation policies, federation patterns and query‑complexity controls, while actively hunting and fixing performance issues like N+1 queries, over‑fetching and slow resolvers. Collaboration is key: you will partner with product engineering groups to unblock them, onboard new teams, and raise overall quality, as well as drive observability through query tracing, latency analysis and SLA monitoring. Mentoring other engineers on GraphQL best practices is also part of the role. The position requires at least five years of backend engineering experience, with a minimum of three years dedicated to GraphQL in a production setting. You must have deep, hands‑on knowledge of schema design, federation (Apollo or equivalent), resolvers, dataloader patterns, persisted queries and query‑cost analysis, and a proven record of running high‑throughput, customer‑facing APIs. Strong understanding of distributed systems, the ability to design observable and resilient services, and fluency in one of Java, Go or Node.js are essential. Excellent communication in English, stakeholder‑management skills and a proactive, mentoring mindset are also required. Additional experience that will give you an edge includes familiarity with GraphQL caching strategies, building internal developer platforms or managing APIs as products, and prior work in e‑commerce, start‑up environments, or similar fast‑moving contexts. The role offers a hybrid work model with three office days per week and two optional remote days, plus the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 30 days a year. Benefits include a personal growth budget, mentorship programs, transportation and fitness allowances, health and wellness perks, activity discounts, language‑reimbursement and regular team events. What the role asks for: - 5+ years backend software engineering experience - 3+ years production GraphQL experience - Deep expertise in GraphQL schema design and federation - Proven operation of high‑throughput GraphQL APIs - Strong grasp of distributed systems design - Fluency in Java, Go, or Node.js - Excellent written and verbal English communication - Nice‑to‑have: familiarity with GraphQL caching strategies - Nice‑to‑have: experience building internal developer platforms - Nice‑to‑have: prior e‑commerce or start‑up experience
