Kurz zusammengefasst
AstraZeneca, a global biopharmaceutical leader focused on discovering and delivering prescription medicines for serious diseases, is expanding its Computational Pathology unit in Munich. The team builds regulated software components that support data management, model training, inference and analysis tools for pathology, many of which are classified as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and must comply with GxP standards. The role of Associate Director, DevOps & Software Engineering, sits at the intersection of infrastructure and development, overseeing the delivery pipeline while actively contributing code. On a daily basis you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end CI/CD platform that powers dozens of repositories. This includes evolving a shared GitHub Actions framework, ensuring it remains maintainable, reliable and easy to adopt across the team's Python‑centric codebases, and extending it to other technology stacks when required. You will design and operate multi‑environment releases, dev, SIT and production, using GitHub environments, container image publishing and deployment to platforms such as Kubeflow, Domino Data Lab and AWS services. Security and compliance are central: you will generate SBOMs, run vulnerability and license scans, perform static analysis, and create a risk‑based triage process that can be defended during audits. Infrastructure is managed as code, covering cloud resources, runners and configuration, all within the guardrails set by central IT. In addition, you will review Python pull requests, develop new features and fixes, and coach colleagues from scientific backgrounds on sound software engineering practices. The position requires a solid academic foundation, a degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent hands‑on experience. You should bring at least seven years of industry experience, with a strong track record of owning CI/CD and release engineering for production software. Mastery of GitHub Actions, including the design of reusable workflows and actions shared across many repositories, is essential. Proficiency in Python is a must, encompassing idiomatic coding, packaging, dependency management and distribution mechanisms such as wheels and lock files. Comfort with Bash scripting, container technologies, SBOM generation, vulnerability scanning and static analysis tools is also required. Experience delivering software in a regulated environment (GxP, medical‑device or comparable) and translating compliance mandates into practical engineering processes is a core expectation. A proactive, can‑do attitude that finds pragmatic solutions when obstacles arise and ensures they become sustainable is vital. The role offers a collaborative environment in Munich, with a modern, sustainable office, after‑work events, lunch‑learn sessions and family support. The location provides easy access to the Alps for outdoor activities, and the team benefits from a culture that values authenticity and personal well‑being. As a senior individual contributor, you will act as the technical liaison with central IT, cybersecurity, platform and quality teams, influencing tool approvals, network and access requirements while reducing reliance on local workarounds. Documentation and knowledge sharing are emphasized to ensure the DevOps capability remains resilient beyond any single individual. What the role asks for: - Degree in computer science, software engineering or related field - Minimum 7 years industry experience - Expert in GitHub Actions workflow design - Strong, idiomatic Python programming skills - Proficient with Bash scripting - Hands‑on experience with containers and SBOM generation - Experience with vulnerability scanning and static analysis - Proven work in regulated (GxP/medical‑device) environments - Demonstrated can‑do attitude and problem‑solving mindset
