Kurz zusammengefasst

GlobalFoundries (GF) is a leading semiconductor manufacturer that designs, develops and produces advanced process‑technology solutions for a wide range of markets. The company's ASIP Designer tool‑suite enables customers to create custom Application‑Specific Instruction‑set Processors (ASIPs) for next‑generation system‑on‑chip designs. As a Software / Applications Engineer you will join the ASIP Designer team and help build, verify and apply the suite of tools that support compiler technology, processor modeling, verification, applications engineering and AI‑assisted processor development. On a daily basis you will work on several overlapping activities. In the compiler area you will extend a retargetable compiler that blends LLVM with custom optimisation and code‑generation passes such as instruction selection, register allocation and scheduling. You will also create and maintain tools for instruction‑set simulation, RTL generation and processor verification, including cycle‑accurate simulators, synthesizable Verilog/VHDL output, automatic test‑program creation and property‑based formal checks. Supporting customers is another key part of the role: you will analyse their use cases, design new processor features, answer technical questions and guide them through evaluation, development and verification phases. Finally, you will explore AI‑driven capabilities that can accelerate processor design and integrate those features into the professional tool‑chain. The position requires a master's or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field. You must be proficient in C and/or C++ and possess strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. A solid understanding of, or a keen interest in, processor and computer architecture is essential, as is the desire to develop sophisticated software tools for processor design. Effective communication and teamwork are also mandatory. Additional expertise that would be advantageous includes experience with LLVM, GCC, MLIR, or other compiler frameworks; knowledge of processor and DSP architectures; embedded C/C++ and assembly programming; instruction‑set simulation and RTL design using Verilog, SystemVerilog or VHDL; SystemC/TLM, UVM and formal verification methods; DSP algorithms and domain‑specific programming models; and work with AI/ML, generative AI or AI‑assisted software engineering. GF encourages applications from women and people with disabilities to promote diversity and inclusion. What the role asks for: - MSc or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or related field - Strong programming skills in C and/or C++ - Solid problem‑solving and analytical abilities - Knowledge of or strong interest in processor and computer architecture - Good communication and collaboration skills - Experience with LLVM, GCC or MLIR (nice‑to‑have) - Experience in processor/DSP architecture or RTL design (nice‑to‑have) - Experience with AI/ML or AI‑assisted engineering (nice‑to‑have)
