Freudenberg is seeking a Software Lead Engineer to head the development of Application Software (ASW) and Basic Software (BSW) for its Smart Leveling System ECU. The role sits within the automotive division of the Freudenberg Group, a global supplier of high‑tech components and solutions, and involves steering software projects from initial launch through to series‑production release. On a daily basis the engineer will define and approve the overall software architecture and interfaces, making sure they meet system, functional‑safety and cybersecurity standards. They will lead the software team, coordinate external partners, and monitor supplier performance according to Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) guidelines. The position also covers integration, debugging, verification, validation and the final production release, while establishing an end‑to‑end development environment that includes automated builds, CI/CD pipelines and test frameworks. Close collaboration with systems, hardware, functional‑safety, cybersecurity and validation groups is required to deliver a complete ECU solution, including the integration of Complex Device Drivers within the AUTOSAR Basic Software stack. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering or a related technical field. They must have several years of hands‑on embedded software experience, preferably in automotive applications, and a proven track record of leading software teams and managing suppliers or engineering service providers. In‑depth knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety, ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity, and ASPICE processes is essential, as is experience with CI/CD pipelines, build automation and automated testing. A solid grasp of embedded software architectures, integration processes, and familiarity with suspension or chassis control ECUs is also required. Proficiency in Embedded C, AUTOSAR, and automotive microcontrollers such as Infineon AURIX or NXP devices is advantageous, as are strong German (C1) and English (B2) communication skills.
