GetYourGuide, the world's leading marketplace for travel experiences, is expanding its new User Platform team. This function will create a unified traveler‑context layer that stitches together identity, booking history, browsing behavior and other signals into a shared, predictive understanding for all product teams. As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend focused), you will join a global, fast‑growing group of technologists building the core services that power this vision. Your day‑to‑day work will involve close collaboration with engineers, designers and analysts to deliver high‑quality backend solutions. You'll design, develop and scale services using Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, Kafka and Kubernetes, while maintaining rigorous code standards and continuous improvement of systems and processes. You'll also help the team iterate quickly by setting up and running A/B experiments, mentor junior members, participate in hiring, and shape the roadmap and long‑term strategy of the platform. The role requires at least six years of software development experience and deep expertise in web application development with component‑based frameworks. You must be highly proficient in Java and have a proven track record designing architecture and deployment of web applications and services. Writing automated tests, producing fast, reliable and maintainable code, and communicating technical concepts clearly in English are essential. The ideal candidate is a proactive, customer‑centric team player who makes data‑driven decisions and can responsibly lead the adoption of AI tools, ensuring quality, security and governance. Additional experience that would be advantageous includes working with A/B testing, hypothesis building and event‑based analytics, as well as prior exposure to e‑commerce or start‑up environments.
