The role of a Senior Forward-Deployed Engineer at Vercel involves working directly with developer teams from strategic enterprise customers. The focus is on driving transformational outcomes in areas such as frontend modernization, platform migrations, and AI adoption. This role requires leading complex Next.js migrations, architecting high-performance applications, and building production AI solutions within customer environments. The engineer will work hands-on with customer teams, whether migrating legacy React applications to App Router, conducting code audits, or deploying production agents using Vercel's eve framework and AI SDK. To qualify for this role, candidates must have at least six years of experience in software engineering, with at least two years in a customer-facing technical role. This could include consulting, solutions architecture, forward-deployed engineering, or experience as a technical founder. Experience using AI instrumentation, such as harnesses, skills, and MCPs, to build and deploy web applications, backend systems, and/or agentic workflows is also required. Additionally, candidates must have high agency and comfort in ambiguity, exceptional communication skills, and strong business acumen. Nice-to-have skills include expertise in both Next.js and AI building. The role involves understanding customers' businesses, scoping, designing, and building AI agents, and proving their value. The team operates with high agency and autonomy, navigating ambiguous enterprise environments, assessing technical debt, designing migration strategies, and delivering measurable business value. The role reports to the Global Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering.
