The Senior Engineer, Embedded Software role focuses on designing and refining firmware for BD's robotic platforms, ensuring that control algorithms, component selection, system integration and testing meet the high standards required for medical automation. In this position you will work within cross‑functional teams from concept through production release, applying both theoretical knowledge and hands‑on electrical support to solve problems. Daily tasks include driving firmware development for performance, safety and scalability; bringing up hardware, debugging devices and optimizing code; implementing continuous‑improvement practices; and co‑designing firmware and hardware for optimal schedules and solutions. You will also be responsible for embedded software and firmware across a portfolio of commissioning systems, collaborating with multiple disciplines to innovate control‑system designs. The role requires a diploma or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field, together with extensive experience in robotics and automation. You must be proficient in C and C++ within real‑time embedded environments and have practical RTOS experience (e.g., FreeRTOS). Strong knowledge of hardware‑software interfaces, digital and analog circuits, and bus systems such as CANopen, Ethernet and EtherCAT is essential. Experience with analog/digital sensors, device drivers, bootloaders, secure boot, and embedded communication is also required. The candidate should be familiar with test‑driven development, unit testing, software‑in‑the‑loop and hardware‑in‑the‑loop methods, and be comfortable using IDEs like IAR, Eclipse or Visual Studio. Additional expectations include familiarity with ECAD tools (Altium Designer preferred), version‑control systems (SVN, GIT, GitHub), Linux environments, and strong written and spoken German and English communication skills. Preferred, but not mandatory, skills include deeper expertise with Altium Designer and any other optional capabilities the team may value. The position is based in Kelberg, Germany, offering a collaborative, open environment where face‑to‑face interaction is encouraged. BD promotes a culture of learning, growth and purpose, backed by a comprehensive Total Rewards program and a competitive salary range of €58,500, €89,250 per year.
